This famous story, by Oscar Wilde, is set in 19th century England . Artist Basil Hallward paints an impressive portrait of his young handsome friend, Dorian Gray. Dorian is delighted with it. But then he meets Basil's friend, the cynical Lord Henry Wotton, who becomes a very bad influence on the impressionable young man. Lord Henry persuades Dorian that the only important thing in life is the pursuit of pleasure. Dorian wishes he could stay young and handsome forever, while his portrait ages instead of him. As Dorian's life slowly becomes more decadent, his wish begins to come true.
